(The Statewide Alliance for Safe Schools)
-
(Fentanyl & Overdose Prevention)
-
(Fentanyl-related facts, tips, and resources)

Important Message - Alert on Fentanyl
October 24, 2022
Dear Fullerton School District Families and Community,
Student and staff safety is the highest priority for the Fullerton School District (FSD). One of the fastest-growing concerns for the safety of our students, staff, and community is the deadly drug fentanyl. An alarming trend is the availability of a colorful form of fentanyl referred to as “Rainbow Fentanyl” that comes in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. The California Department of Public Health recently issued an alert on “Rainbow Fentanyl” in response to the danger it creates for K-12 schools, students, and communities. Fentanyl is an extremely potent and dangerous synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
Next week, October 24-28, 2022, FSD will be joining other school districts across the nation in observing Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is the week that encourages students to commit to drug-free living and creates awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. Red Ribbon Week is especially timely this year as our nation is facing a frightening epidemic that is taking the lives of many young people. We are asking for our families to be informed and partner with us to create awareness among our children and community to never take any pills, powder, or any substance from anyone even if it is colorful or looks like candy.
The following are resources that will help everyone learn more about the current “Rainbow Fentanyl” trend:
-
California Department of Public Health: The Statewide Alliance for Safe Schools
-
California Department of Public Health: Fentanyl & Overdose Prevention
-
Center for Disease Control (CDC): Fentanyl-related facts, tips, and resources
If you or anyone in your family encounter fentanyl in any form, please call 911 immediately.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe from fentanyl and other dangers. Please reach out to your child’s principal if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Robert Pletka, Ed.D.
Superintendent
