Today and tomorrow you will work on organizing the information you have into chapters. You may find that you have all the details and facts for each section, or you may find you need to do more research. Either one is okay. We will have time today, tomorrow and part of next week to work on your writing as we prepare for the final draft.

Use the My Topic Informational Writing Graphic Organizers. Your topic is the type of extreme weather you chose. It could be floods, blizzards, tsunamis or whatever you chose. Write the name of your extreme weather in the circle.

The other lines are for other sections of your all about book. Think about the facts that you have gathered and what your chapters could be. These lines that are connected to the circle are headings for your chapters. You do not need to have all filled out, but you must have at least 4.

Your first heading should be "What are _______?" Write that on the first line on the left side.  Other ideas for your sections could be are types of _________, famous __________, types of blank____________, Where do __________ occur?, safety tips and glossary. These are not mandatory, but ideas that they could be.

For example, if I was studying tsunamis, My chapter/section headings could be:

    1. What are tsunamis?

    2. Where do tsunamis occur?

    3. Safety tips

    4. Glossary

You may use the Math textbook or the digit copy of the Math textbook.  If you choose to use the digital copy, there are interactive parts of the textbook.  For any activity that you are unable to print, please feel free to use any paper. This week we will use BrainPop Jr. The username is Fisler5 and the password is gallileo. The username and password are also located on the BrainPop Jr. paper.  You may use the following link to access the Interactive Student Edition: https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/content/hsp/math/gomath/ca/gr2/online_interactive_teacher_book_9780544221581_/index.html

For Wednesday’s Math lesson, you will need a ruler. If you do not have one at home, you may print one online, or use a quarter. A quarter is one inch long.

    Monday:

Task 1: Read the Story Problem on Alice and her Easter egg hunt. If you are unable to print, you may complete the work on any paper. Complete the first strategy box.

Task 2: Log on to BrainPop Jr. Watch “Nonstandard Measurement” movie and take the hard quiz.

Task 3: Many years ago, when rulers did not exist, people measured items with nonstandard units of measurement. For today’s Math lesson, you are going to measure items with your thumb. We will use your thumb as an inch estimate because an inch is about the length of your thumb from your knuckle to the tip of your thumb. Find two small objects in your house. Take a picture of each object next to your thumb. Then measure the item with end part your thumb.  Remember to line it up with your knuckle, all the way to the tip. Write down your measurement. Do the same with the second item. Do the same with the width of your iPad. The width is the bottom part near the home button. Write down the measurement of your iPad. You do not need to take a picture of it.

    Tuesday:

Task 1: Watch the lesson on https://learnzillion.com/assignments/ZD24846.

Task 2: Open Math textbook to page 410 (Estimate Lengths in Inches) or sign on to Go Math textbook online (Lesson 8.3) using Clever. Complete problems #1-10 on pages 410-412. Remember, look at the bead and use the size of the bead to estimate (take a guess) at how long the string is.

Task 3: Create a collage using the PicCollage app on your iPad. Include the title Thumb Measuring and your name. Include the pictures of the two items and each measurement. Also include the measurement of your iPad, but a picture is not necessary. Post your collage to Seesaw. There is a sample on Haiku.

Read each day for at least 20 minutes. Keep a journal and record each day based on the daily assignment. You may choose to read picture books each day, or a chapter book that will last you the entire week.

    Monday:

Reading - In a journal, record what happened in the beginning, middle and end of your reading.

Word Work - Write down ten verbs from your reading.  Write down two columns. One column should have the verb in the present tense and the other should have the verb written in the past tense. Please find ten other verbs that are not part of the example. An example is shown below:

    Tuesday:

Reading - In a journal, write about the main character in five sentences. You can describe their personality traits (kind, brave, cautious, silly), the way they look, or the things they like to do.

Word Work - Write five words that have the long a sound. Circle which letters made the long a sound. For example, the word stay has the long a sound. I would circle the letters ay because they make the long a sound.

    Wednesday:

Reading - In a journal, write about the setting of the story. Remember setting includes the place and time.  A story may have multiple settings. Pick one setting and illsutrate a picture in your journal.

Word Work - Write five words that have the long e sound. Circle which letters made the long e sound. For example, the word teeth has the long e sound. I would circle the letters ee because they make the long e sound.

    Thursday:
