Robert C. Fisler School provides stimulating instruction to challenge the minds of its gifted and talented students. Elevated levels of standards, established for the GATE students, have inspired higher academic performance. GATE classrooms at Fisler foster a rigorous environment while allowing gifted students to fully explore and develop their potentials.
The GATE teachers are certified in areas of curriculum development for gifted students, strategies for differentiated instruction to meet the needs of gifted students, and the tenets of GATE education. All GATE teachers at Robert C. Fisler have been certified by the Fullerton School District in GATE education, and many teachers also hold university certification.

Interesting Facts…
Origin of Gifted Education:
In 1869, Francis Galton first used the term “gifted” to describe adults who showed “exceptional talent” in their field. (For example, a gifted chemist.) Galton also believed that “giftedness” could be inherited by children, who would grow up to become gifted adults.
In the 1900’s, Lewis Terman began a long-term study of gifted children and included the element of IQ testing. He deemed children, whose had IQs of 140 or more, to be gifted. However, a high IQ did not predict success in adulthood.
In 1926, Leta Hollingworth, author of Gifted Children, Their Nature and Nurture, believed that the home and school environment helped develop the potential and achievement of gifted children.
Thus, these individuals helped pave the way for what we have established for our gifted students today.
