    Hello room 13 families,

We had a blast watching the solar eclipse last week!  There are a few pictures added to the bottom of the Springtime Fun album HERE.

We will be iReady testing tomorrow (Monday).   Please remind your child to have their iPad fully charged and brought to class each day.

We have been studying geometry alongside our other math concepts these past few weeks.  The kids are ready to take the chapter test this Wednesday, 4/17.  We will complete a chapter review in class on Tuesday, which should be brought home to use as a study tool.

We will be participating in a fun virtual class "Sustainable Sounds" with a company called "Bash the Trash" on Tuesday, April 23. We will be making instruments from recyclable materials, learning about the science of sound and the importance of reusing and recycling, and "jamming" together with our instruments, along with the instructor.  This opportunity is brought to us by the district's art grant.  We will need donations of clean recyclable materials (tin cans without sharp edges, empty small boxes, clean take-out containers, etc).  Please send donations in anytime this week or next.  It's nice for the kids to have lots of choices with which to build their instruments!

All 3rd graders will take the California State Assessment, or CAASPP Test.  Testing will take place in the mornings from 8:30-10:00, beginning the week of April 28.  We will test in the mornings for approximately two weeks. Please try not to schedule appointments in the mornings for the weeks of April 28 and May 5, if possible.  If the kids miss testing, they will have to complete their missed tests during make-ups, and I find that they don't do as well as they would if they were in the classroom.
We will start taking practice tests on the CAASPP site to help prepare for testing, and to get familiar with the testing format and tools.  You can view some sample practice tests HERE, to get an idea of what some of the test questions will look like.  You are welcome to have your children practice using these practice tests at home, but it is not necessary.  They will get plenty of review in class.  To view the practice tests at home, sign in as a guest user and keep it on guest session.  Sign in, then choose "Grade 3" from the drop-down menu.  From there, you can choose any of the Smarter Balanced Practice or Training Tests.
