We abide by the CARE model, which is a campus-wide list of behavior expectations that is fluid both inside and outside of the classroom. In our FESTO class and lab, we further these expectations with specific safety rules to ensure a safe, productive, and collaborative learning environment for each learner.

Lab Safety and Classroom Rules:

1. Leave your station clean and in good order before leaving the lab.

2. No eating (and chewing gum) or drinking in the lab.

3. No horseplay. Walk, keep voices down, use appropriate language, and stay at your assigned machine.

4. Leave all equipment and materials in the lab, unless given permission.
   (You may take completed FESTO projects home with you.)

5. Use iPads and laptops for FESTO purposes only.

6. Keep hands and feet to yourself. Do not throw any items.

7. No phones and earphones/Airpods in class. (Teacher's discretion.)

Consequences:

• First strike

- Verbal warning

• Second strike (Teacher issues a “Minor”)

- Loss of lab privilege for one day

- Student writes the “Lab Safety and Classroom Rules” (2x) with a written contract.

- Teacher emails the parent/guardian about behavior

• Third strike (Teacher issues another “Minor”)

- Loss of lab privilege for a quarter

- Lunch Detention

- Teacher emails the parent/guardian about behavior

- Conference with parent/guardian

** Possibility of class removal after three strikes.

Since FESTO activities involve chemicals and various machinery, students who do not behave according to the class standard will not be able to participate in the lab. A student that has unacceptable behavior will receive a strike. Once the student reaches 3 strikes, they will not be able to participate in the labs for the rest of the quarter, pending the discretion of the teacher.

Remember – labs are a privilege, not a right.

Grading:

Students will be mainly graded based on the number of Machine Projects they complete per quarter. Students will be working at their own pace throughout the lessons; however, they need to complete at least one machine project every two weeks. In addition, there are weekly group challenges and assignments throughout the quarter. The number of machine projects that are required per quarter are as follows:
