• Community Based Instruction

Community Based Instruction (CBI) is educational instruction in naturally occurring in community environments providing students “real life experiences”. The goal is to provide a variety of hands on learning opportunities at all age levels to help students acquire the skills to live in the world today.

Room 4 goes on outings once a week, typically on Wednesdays.  Students enjoy going shopping and experiencing the hands on learning of purchasing items.  Once a month, or every other month we take a trip farther away, such as to the 99c store, Mc Donalds or Target.  Parents will always be notified of these longer CBI outings.

Many students bring money for the outing, but it is not required.  Students should not bring more than $5.00 in a week.  It is encouraged to send a small list of what is the expected purchase for the week.  Some parents will include something needed at home to give their child a feeling of responsibility.  Maybe you need broccoli for tonight's dinner, or some napkins at home.  Students may also buy a snack buy only healthy snacks are encouraged (no soda, chips, candy, etc...)
