What is PBIS at Acacia?
PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is the way we promote and encourage positive, expected behavior here at Acacia. Our approach focuses on prevention, not punishment.
At the start of each school year, all students are explicitly taught our school-wide expectations through modeling, discussion, and practice. These lessons use positive language and are reinforced across all areas of our campus.
As you walk around Acacia, you’ll notice signage highlighting our three core expectations:
-
Respectful
-
Responsible
-
Ready
Every classroom has a behavior matrix that outlines what these expectations look like in different settings around campus. We encourage you to review the matrix with your student. For example, students show respect in line by waiting quietly for their teacher. Another example: when walking across campus, students walk outside the yellow lines to avoid opening doors—keeping themselves and others safe.
