Dear Parks Junior High Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!

I am so excited to greet a new class of 7th graders and to welcome back our returning 8th graders. Health and safety remain a priority while we strive to provide a rigorous, stimulating learning environment for every student. We will use our district's Blackboard Connect messaging system to communicate important school and community updates via email and text message, so please be sure to contact our office to update your email and phone number should either change. If you opted out of receiving messages at any time, please consider opting in so that you can stay informed about all things Parks.

Parks Junior High is proud of its tradition of academic excellence and a student body that promotes kindness, inclusivity, and belonging. There are a number of ways our students can get involved at school, including clubs, Leadership, and after-school sports. We are proud to partner with the Sandy Hook Foundation to feature social-emotional learning through schoolwide programs and activities including "Start with Hello" and "See Something, Say Something". We celebrate our diversity through cultural heritage months and educational opportunities and teach our students to stop bullying through our "Stand up to Hate" week activities. We encourage parents/guardians to get involved as well, by participating in PTSA, School Site Council, volunteering to chaperone dances, and attending Back to School Night, Conferences, and Open House.

Junior high is is an exciting time of transition and growth. Parents/Guardians, please check Power School regularly to stay informed about your child's academic progress. All teachers are accessible through e-mail, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns about your child's progress. We believe every student is capable of success and understand the importance of working together as a team in order to help our students achieve their full potential.

I look forward to getting to know our students and parents. Please feel free to contact me by phone (714-447-7785) or e-mail (laura_makely@myfsd.org) and plan to join me at  "Coffee with the Principal" (scheduled throughout the school year) in order to learn more about our vision at Parks Junior High.

I am looking forward to a terrific school year. Go Panthers!
