D. Russell Parks Chapter of National Junior Honor Society is an annual recognition given to students who satisfy the school's requirements according to the five pillars of NJHS — scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, and service.
Seventh-grade students who earn a seventh-grade GPA of 3.5 or above (calculated using all grades in Q1, Q2, and Q3 for 7th grade), without any N’s or U’s in citizenship and any administrative infractions (i.e., major referrals, suspensions, any academic dishonesty referral, etc.), may qualify for a medal at the end of the third quarter, but must also perform 12 hours of community service in their seventh grade year.
- Seventh-grade GPA of 3.5 or above (calculated using all grades in Q1, Q2, and Q3 for 7th grade)
- No N’s or U’s in citizenship in 7th grade
- No administrative infractions (i.e., major referrals, suspensions, any academic dishonesty referral, etc.)
- Leadership/Extracurricular Activities
- 12 hours of community service in their seventh grade year
- These hours may be completed between June and the beginning of April of the 7th grade year. *All 12 hours of community service must be completed by the time the application is submitted*
Eighth-grade students who earn an eighth-grade GPA of 3.5 or above (calculated using all grades in Q1, Q2, and Q3 for 8th grade), without any N’s or U’s in citizenship and any administrative infractions (i.e., major referrals, suspensions, any academic dishonesty referral, etc.), may qualify for a medal at the end of the third quarter, but must also perform 12 hours of community service in their eighth grade year.
**Gold Cord (8th grade NJHS Members only): 4.0 GPA all 7 quarters at Parks Junior High (7th grade: Q1–Q4; 8th grade: Q1–Q3)**
Membership Eligibility

There are 3 different ways of becoming a NJHS member. Please see which one applies to you:
a) Membership from a Different School: Students who are interested and had previous membership at a different school need to show proof (i.e., letter from principal or chapter adviser confirming membership) that they were a member of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) by the end of Quarter 2 (December 19, 2024). To send proof of prior membership, please click here.
Note: If you were a member of D. Russell Parks Chapter of NJHS last year, you do not need to show proof.
b) New NJHS Members: Students who are interested but do not have any prior membership in NJHS will have to go through the candidate selection process. The candidate form will be posted on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 3 PM and is due by 11:59 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025. To be considered, students must meet the standards listed below:
* 7th grade: seventh-grade GPA of at least 3.5 (calculated using all grades in Q1, Q2, and Q3 for 7th grade) / 8th grade: eighth-grade cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 (calculated using all grades in Q1, Q2, and Q3 for 8th grade)
- Citizenship grades of satisfactory or above in all subjects (no N's or U's in any subject with the exception of Homeroom)
- No administrative infraction (i.e., major referrals, suspensions, any academic dishonesty referral, etc.)
- Leadership/Extracurricular Activities
- Complete at least 12 hours of community service in their eighth grade year
- These hours may be completed between June–early April of the 8th grade year. All 12 hours of community service must be completed by the time the application is submitted.
c) Returning NJHS Members: In order to retain membership, students must meet D. Russell Parks Chapter of NJHS standards listed above (demonstrate outstanding performance in all five criteria of the NJHS — scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, and service). Students will need to submit the candidate form by 11:59 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025 for verification.
Community Service

The twelve hours of community service must be earned by April 4, 2025. Please fill out the 2024-2025 NJHS Volunteer Form to submit no later than 11:59 PM on April 4, 2025 (instructions on how to submit this form will be given at a later time).
Note: Once you make a copy of the form, please change the title of the document from "Copy of 2024-2025 NJHS Volunteer Form" to "Your First & Last Name: 2024-2025 NJHS Volunteer Form"
