  • Homework Policy

In Room 9 students will receive daily math practice, spelling/ vocabulary practice, and weekly reading homework Monday through Thursday in the form of a packet. Students are responsible for completing the assigned pages per night as it correlates to the lessons taught in class. Homework is kept in the provided black homework folders. Students are expected to bring their homework folders and agenda/planner to school everyday.

Each Monday, your child will bring home a new reading log. The reading assignment requires that all students read for a minimum of 30 minutes to practice fluency and comprehension skills. Students are also required to respond to the reading comprehension questions about their reading to demonstrate comprehension and practice their writing skills. The weekly reading log is to be completed daily and turned in on Friday.

Math homework is assigned on a daily basis and is based off of the lesson reviewed in class or a review of the current math unit. Once, 3rd graders begin their Multiplication and Division unit they will be expected to study their math facts flash cards (approximately October/November) daily to build math facts fluency. If students have internet access at home it is highly beneficial for both 2nd and 3rd grade students to login to Relfex Math to strengthen their math facts fluency in either addition/subtraction or multiplication/division.

Spelling/Vocabulary homework is based on the weekly unit of study. The homework packet will include three pages of vocabulary practice and one page of spelling practice. Students will be accessed on both vocabulary and spelling mastery in class every Friday.

Throughout the year additional homework may be assigned in the form of social studies or science extension projects. Homework is evaluated on completeness, neatness, and returned in a timely manner. If students are absent they are responsible for gathering missed assignments upon return to school.

Please keep in mind that homework is a review of concepts learned in class.  Students are expected be able to complete their homework independently.  They will occasionally need adult supervision to assist them with difficult concepts.  Each day please look over the homework assignments with your child and check for completion.  Upon completion of the packet please sign the front cover sheet. Homework will not be returned once it is turned in. If your child is not completing their homework or I notice they are having difficulties I will contact you so we can come up with a solution. If you notice your child is having difficulty with a concept please contact me via email or message me on Class Dojo so we can further support your child in class.
