Student Achievement

• All staff at Golden Hill will strive to ensure that all students are academically successful at Golden Hill Elementary School. 
  • The percentage of students in grades 3-6 scoring in levels 1 and 2 (“not meeting State Standards”) on the 2021-2022 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)/CAASPP will decrease by a minimum of 20% from the 2018-2019 ELA and Mathematics Results
  • By Spring 2022, the percent of English Learners in Grades 3-6 meeting standards on the ELA/ MATH portion of the SBAC will increase by at least 20%.
  • By Spring 2022, the percent of SPED students in Grades 3-6 meeting standards on the ELA and Mathematics portion of the SBAC will increase by at least 20%.

Major Initiatives, Actions, and Services to Improve Student Achievement

• Student achievement is promoted through the use of state-adopted programs as well as supplemental materials.  Teachers have all been trained in Writer’s Workshop and Cognitively Guided Instruction in mathematics.  
• Teachers will lead students to mastery of California Common Core Standards utilizing Writer’s Workshop, GoMath!, as well as supplemental materials such as NewsELA, Scholastic News, and Storyworks.  
• Golden Hill will continue to implement RTI (Response to Intervention) through the use of two RTI Coaches (1 in each subject area).
• Our resource specialist teachers will provide both push-in and pull-out services out services station is strong at Golden Hill with K-6 teachers meeting once weekly for 50 minutes to address what we expect students to learn, how we will measure their learning, how we will respond if students are not learning, and how we will respond if students already know the expected learning results.  Teams are sharing common assessments, evaluating student results, and researching and discussing strategies that will ensure student achievement. 
• Golden Hill utilizes the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process. Students are identified for additional supports through 4 roundtable discussions, using multiple measures of assessments and detailed data.
• To increase student achievement, we must first increase student attendance.  Golden Hill is committed to improving our attendance rates.  As we continue to create a culture of community, provide opportunities for students to create art, and develop a safe environment, these are all areas focused on improving attendance.  
• Golden Hill has begun implementation of Khan Academy in both ELA and Math instruction.  
• Golden Hill has begun a partnership with The California Arts Project to begin integrating the arts across the curriculum. 
• Golden Hill is committed to in-class small group instruction, as well as a review of all vocabulary and concepts both in ELA and Math. 

Technology and Digital Literacy

• All Golden Hills students and staff will have access to and demonstrate mastery of 21st-century learning tools, resources, and skills in support of relevant and rigorous learning experiences.

Major Initiatives, Actions, and Services to Improve Student Achievement

• Golden Hill students all have access to iPads in a 1:1 learning environment.  Grades four through six take their iPads home for homework, projects, and research.  Grade three students are allowed to take their iPads home during the second half of the school year.  Kindergarten, grade one, and grade two leave their iPads in their classrooms.  iPads are used daily in the classroom for ELA and math instruction, as well as remediation and advancement.  iPads are used for writing instruction and practice with a keyboard. 
• Teachers have updated resources in their classrooms, including laptops and iPads, document cameras, Apple TVs, and smart televisions.  Teachers have access to numerous supplemental resources via iPad apps, and classroom programs. 
• Staff have been and will continue to be trained in the utilization of educational technology.  Ongoing training for resources, grade-level curriculum, and extracurricular offerings will be offered this year.  High-reliability schools training will be implemented as we allow teachers to observe each other through learning walks and best teaching and instructional technology practices.

Safe and Secure Environment

• Golden Hill will provide a welcoming, safe, and secure environment for all members of our school community.

• Golden Hill will conduct a school climate survey annually to parent communities, students, staff, and teachers.  
• Providing a positive school culture is extremely important at Golden Hill.  All stakeholders are treated with respect, positive intent, and given the utmost consideration in their concerns.  Golden Hill understands the importance of building strong community relationships, including positive relationships with students and other staff members. Decisions are made with all stakeholders in mind.  In order for students to thrive, they must first feel safe, valued, and be provided a positive environment in which to learn and grow.
• Golden Hill is currently a SILVER level award recipient for the implementation of our PBIS program.  Our PBIS team consists of teachers, parents, and classified staff.  The PBIS team works to ensure that students are safe and supported, and are given tools to be a positive influence in the community. 
• Golden Hill PBIS is currently working towards implementation for either application at the Gold or Platinum levels.  
• Golden Hill will incorporate the feedback of the FSD PBIS coach. 
• Golden Hill utilizes a PBIS Behavior matrix and consistently and constantly works to ensure implementation and understanding. 
• Staff can voice their concerns in a safe and non-threatening environment, through the Fullerton School District-led PAL process.  .  This helps create a sense of unity and collegiality. 
• The school grounds at Golden Hill will be maintained to emphasize safety for all students and adults. 
• Regular safety drills will be held to support emergency and disaster preparedness.  
• Emergency supplies are kept and updated on an annual basis. 
• The Golden Hill staff strives to provide excellent customer service to families, students, and community members. 

Parent Engagement

• Golden Hill Elementary School values the partnership between the school, home, and our surrounding community.  It is the ongoing goal of Golden Hill to ensure positive communication and interaction with all three stakeholder groups, thus increasing knowledge of and participation in school-wide initiatives.

• Golden Hill fosters and maintains positive partnerships.  We utilize the digital student portfolio and communication app called SeeSaw, coupled with weekly communication digital folders which communicate objectives, student achievement, and special events to parents. 
• Parents help in our classrooms, assisting teachers. 
• We utilize a weekly Sunday BlackboardConnect phone and email message with detailed announcements and upcoming events to families. 
• Teachers maintain websites and the school utilizes an interactive website. 
• We utilize social media including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.  
• We hold a Back to School event in the Fall and an Open House in the spring.
• Big buddy classrooms in which a lower grade class meets once a week with their big buddy upper-grade classroom.
