AVID'S MISSION is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges.

    1. Is AVID a good choice for my child?

The best students for the AVID elective class are usually the B or C students who have shown potential in academics. The AVID elective is best for students who are self-motivated to learn and strive to do better in their academic classes.

    2. What will my child learn?

The AVID curriculum is centered around building skills and developing behaviors that lead to success in both academics and in high school/college readiness. The curriculum in AVID is made to push students towards honors and Advanced Placement classes in high school.

Students participate in weekly tutorials with college students and peers, practice their research and writing skills while preparing for discussions about current events and are taught how to take notes.

Students also have the opportunity to explore different careers and learn about colleges through the AVID elective.
