• Math

This year in math, we will be covering many topics such as operations with fractions and decimals, graphing, measurement conversions, and geometric shapes! We use the GoMath curriculum and students will be doing most of their work in their practice books. There are a ton of great apps we use during math time as well, such as ST Math, iReady Math, Multiflow, Divisionflow, Prodigy, and many more. Each child will receive support, interventions, and enrichment as needed.

    Reading

For reading, we will be using a combination of the Wonders curriculum and a selection of novel studies throughout the year. There will also be a focus on spelling, vocabulary, and grammar. Students will receive reading support, interventions, and enrichment as needed.

    Writing

Students will publish three writing pieces this year: narrative, informational, and opinion. Students will be participating in the process of Writer's Workshop, which consists of a 5 to 10 minute mini-lesson provided by the teacher, a short practice activity, several sustained minutes of independent writing during which the teacher conducts individualized student writing conferences, and time at the end of the writing session for students to share their work!

    Science

We will be covering many exciting topics in science this year! To name a few: Matter, forces and motion, energy, ecosystems, Earth, the universe, and engineering design. We will be learning through many different engaging modalities, such as hands-on activities, virtual field trips, art journaling, and more!

    Social Studies

In 5th grade, students learn all about United States history and geography. Topics we will be covering include the native indigenous groups, early explorers, the colonial era, the American Revolution, the U.S. Constitution, and the location of the 50 states and their capitals. Social Studies lessons are supplemented using engaging resources such as Nearpod, Brainpop and Epic!
