Welcome Back Commonwealth Families!

It's time to begin a new year, 2023-2024 and I am truly honored to be able to continue leading the Commonwealth School Community!  We all hope you had a wonderful summer break and we look forward to welcoming back our Tiger Family on August 14, 2023, for the first day of the school year.  To all of you joining our Commonwealth family for the first time, we welcome you!  Teachers have been hard at work these past weeks preparing for the school year.  We will strive to provide quality service for our families and continue our tradition of creating a welcoming community school!

Our goal is to provide a rigorous and engaging learning environment for your child to learn, grow, and thrive while gaining the skills and knowledge they will need to reach their highest potential.  We are extremely excited to announce that Commonwealth was awarded a grant from the Segerstrom Foundation to become a Disney Musicals In Schools recipient!  We will be offering this after-school enrichment to students in grades 3-5 beginning in September.  This will allow us to build our own Theater Program over the 3-year grant, with help from artists and support from the Segerstrom Foundation.  All our students will benefit as they either perform or attend performances over the next few years.  It will be a wonderful and enriching learning experience for the Commonwealth Community.   Enrichment opportunities like this one give students a chance to see their own limitless potential for future personal success in school, college, and beyond!

We will again encourage you, parents, to be an active participant in your child's education.  I request all our families to help us strengthen our Commonwealth program in these ways:  ensure your child has good attendance; show appreciation to staff and teachers whenever you can and commit to becoming involved in at least one volunteer activity for this school year.  Our PTA will be reaching out to you for help and I encourage you to join and volunteer in any way you can.  Multiple studies show that when parents are committed to helping in their child's school, the higher achieving their child becomes.  We are here to prepare our students to be leaders and innovators of the future.  We need your involvement to make this a reality!  You are and always will be your child’s BEST Teacher. Please get involved as much as you are able to.  Remember our Commonwealth Tiger motto:  I CAN!  I WILL!  I ROAR!

We want all our Commonwealth students to feel that they are welcomed, supported, and a valuable part of the Commonwealth community.  I will be reminding all students and staff this year that we "GROW TOGETHER!"  We are stronger together and we will move forward to great things as a community.

We hope our website provides you with useful information.  Please do not hesitate to call or visit us in the office if you have any questions.  As your principal, my door is always open!

Looking forward to a GREAT YEAR of GROWING TOGETHER!

Once a TIGER, always a TIGER!

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Jean Summy
