Rising Stars

Rising Stars is a mentoring program starting with students in 5th grade and continuing until the students leave Fullerton School District. The program began with District Office staff matched with students and has expanded to include community organizations connecting with additional schools. During the four years, the students and mentors build relationships through monthly meetings, field trips, and exposure to new and innovative programs and activities.
What's the Goal?
The Rising Stars are students who have amazing potential and can benefit from an additional adult in their lives to make sure they are attending school,
completing assignments, and getting assistance, when and if needed. The mentors serve as cheerleaders to the Rising Stars and an additional resource to help them. The mentors are there to make a positive and consistent impact on the students.
Who Can Participate?
- Students who will benefit from an additional adult connection to provide support and inspiration
- Students who show promise, but may lack consistent encouragement
- Students who are working through minimal to moderate behavioral, academic, or familial challenges
- Students who show potential that may or may not need support for growth
- Students who will contribute to a positive and supportive group dynamic
Key Components:
- One mentor for every two students.
- Meet with Rising Stars at least 8 times throughout the school year.
- Aim to expose students to new foods, experiences, opportunities.
- Celebrate student achievements throughout the year.
- Have knowledge of grades, challenges, and test scores.
- Provide support (tutoring groups), when needed.
I think the best part about rising stars was seeing how much we grew up. I’ve grown so much from all the support, opportunities and fun activities the group gave me, although I’ll be sad it’s ending, I’ll be glad it happened.
I like Rising Stars because I can be myself without anyone judging me.”
