Homework Guidelines
- Primary students: 10-30 minutes per night.
- Upper elementary students: 30-90 minutes per night.
- Middle school/junior high students: 50-120 minutes per night.
A Parent’s Guide to Success- This brochure was put together by the National PTA. It provides a list by grade level of the key items students should be learning in English language arts and mathematics. It also lists activities that parents can do at home to support their child’s learning. The guide also has methods for helping parents to approach teachers about the Common Core.
California State Assessment Guide- This guide by the National PTA gives a description of the California Common Core State Standards and information about the new assessments, sample test questions, overview of accountability, and additional resources for parents.
Achieve the Core -This website is full of free information for educators to understand and implement the Common Core successfully in the classroom with lessons in ELA and mathematics, practice problems, and other resources. Parents will also find it useful to see how Common Core is being taught in the classroom.
Parent Roadmaps -These publications were developed by the Council of Great City Schools. Each grade level has a specific brochure that provides detailed expectations of the Common Core Mathematics. There are grade level examples using parent-friendly language, how to work with your child at home, and Spanish versions are available.
Eureka Math Tips for Parents -This library of print materials was designed to assist parents in supporting their child with Common Core math at home. A few videos are also posted on this site.
