The Laguna Road School mission is to empower and enable every student to succeed by educating them to think creatively, to take responsible risks, to embrace diversity, and to make impactful changes in their community through acts of public service and social responsibility.
The school vision through Project Impact is to provide a space for every student to discover, build, and create so that they can find their way to impact the world.
Goals

Goal 1
Student Achievement
- By May 2023, the overall SBAC ELA Distance From Standard (DFS) will maintain or increase the Distance From Standard by 3 points from 83 to 86 in ELA and 64 to 67 in Math.
- For each subgroup, all students will meet or exceed their typical growth target score, and we will increase the number of English Learners demonstrating progress toward English proficiency.
Major Initiatives, Actions and Services to Improve Student Achievement

Grade-level teams identify and develop guaranteed and viable standards and monitor student progress toward mastery.

Grade-level teams implement standards-based curriculum and teaching practices to teach Common Core State Standards.

Teachers provide tier-two interventions for students who need additional and/or targeted support.

All teachers participate in staff development days to monitor instructional pacing and student progress to plan additional effective teaching.

Teachers will receive release time to analyze student data and share best practices to support all students’ growth.

Staff professional development to implement Balanced Literacy components such as Word Study and Reading and Writing Workshop.

Vertical articulation across grade levels to understand student growth and the progression of standards.

Instructional Aide support in primary grades to help with assessments and small group instruction.

Teachers meet twice a week for 50 minutes in their PLC while students are at PE, so they can monitor student learning, analyze data, and plan instruction.

Continued professional development in effective English Language strategies. Participation in GLAD training.

Goal 2
Technology and Digital Literacy
- Students and staff will develop as 21st-century learners by having access to technology and the development of inquiry, design, creativity, and problem-solving through school-wide initiatives and opportunities.

All teachers will teach and foster curiosity through inquiry-based learning.

Teachers will utilize the STEAM Lab to support Project Impact and utilize a maker space.

Students will apply their learning through multimedia projects for real live audiences.

Every student has access to an iPad during the school day, and upper-grade students take their iPad to and from school.

Participation in Speech & Debate, Math Field Day, the Congressional App Challenge, and after-school clubs for drones and robotics.

Every classroom teaches Common Sense Media lessons, and Laguna Road is a Common Sense Media School.

Typing and 21st-century skills will be appropriately prioritized from primary grades through 6th grade.

Safe and Secure Environment
- Laguna Road will provide a safe and secure environment by collaborating with stakeholders to create clear, consistent routines and procedures that ensure safety for students, staff, parents, and the community.

Implement school-wide PBIS to teach students clear expectations and build a positive school culture.

Staff meetings and professional development days that build a positive school culture and increase morale for all staff.

PBIS team meets monthly to collaborate, review school-wide data, and improve systems that provide safety for students and staff.

Create opportunities to celebrate with staff, students, and parents through cultural lessons and activities and by maintaining an attitude of gratitude toward one another.

Implement tier two and tier three resources for students who need additional layers of support with the support of our tier two and tier three support teams.

Collaborate with the MTSS team to respond and meet the needs of students who need more social, emotional, or academic support.

Implement safety drills, meet with the safety team four times a year, and annually update safety equipment.

Collaborate with the district to improve safety across the school through continued progress in fencing, security cameras, training, clearly marked parking and traffic protocols, and general up-to-date safety protocols.

Consistent communication and collaboration with parent groups and organizations to provide a positive school/parent relationship for a safe and welcoming environment.

Korean Outreach, an extension of PTA for parents who speak Korean, meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month.

SOS, Laguna Road School Foundation, meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month.
Activities to Support Learning at Home

After-school enrichment classes: Writer’s Guild, Speech & Debate, Choir, Robotics, and Drones.

iPads are able to go home and offer extra practice and digital reading.
