PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Although the Advanced Placement program is designed for high school students, 7th and 8th grade students who have demonstrated high interest and skills in the areas of English language or computer science have the opportunity to take an AP test. The AP tests that are offered are AP Language and Composition, AP Computer Science A, and AP Computer Science Principles.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a schoolwide approach designed to close the opportunity gap for diverse and underrepresented learners by building relational capacity, integrating collaborative inquiry and leading with high expectations. AVID at the core begins with an elective class that serves as a springboard to change at the systems, culture, leadership, and instructional levels.

AVID makes an impact on 7th and 8th grade students enrolled at Nicolas Junior High School and Ladera Vista School of the Arts.

AVID’s strategies and collective approach can build strong habits of mind, which will translate directly into academic progress. High school graduation rates and college acceptances in preparation for careers are the long-term markers of success.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Our Balanced Literacy program grounds literacy work in structured Writing and Reading Workshop curricula while incorporating essential components of research-based reading instruction such as phonics/word study, interactive/shared writing, and guided/interactive/shared reading. The intended outcomes are developing scholars with strong reading and writing identities, fostering a positive culture of literacy, and providing students authentic opportunities in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Fullerton School District empowers students to build a foundation of mathematical understanding through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Students build upon what they already know and advance their intuitive problem-solving processes to help them develop their core understanding of rigorous math concepts. We foster students’ math achievement, students’ problem-solving experiences and teachers’ math knowledge through CGI. The desired outcome is that each child's mathematical understanding is uncovered and expanded through listening to students, asking smart questions, and engaging with their thinking.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Culturally Responsive Teaching is about building all students' capacity to do rigorous work by leveraging the cultural knowledge and prior experiences our diverse children brings to the classroom.

All stakeholders in the FSD community are impacted. Teachers are growing their pedagogical practice to interpret students' cultural knowledge and then build upon that in order to facilitate robust, rigorous, expansive learning for all. Students are centered in the work and all families' backgrounds are affirmed and are essential components in the learning process.

The intended outcomes are high academic achievement, high levels of social-emotional awareness and skills, all while cultivating independent learners who respect multicultural perspectives and experiences.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Fullerton School District Dual Language Academy (DLA) is for all students to reach high levels of academic achievement, develop biliteracy and bilingualism, and cultivate cross-cultural competencies needed to succeed in a multicultural society and global economy.

Students enrolled in the DLA program reach learn content in English and the target language (Spanish) as well as become bilingual and biliterate.

The intended outcome is to have high levels of academic achievement, develop biliteracy and bilingualism, while cultivate cross-cultural competencies needed to succeed in a multicultural society and global economy.

Our ELA program provides an integrated model of literacy developing the reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills that our students need to be college and career ready. Our program builds in complexity year after year, so that our students are challenged and intrigued to become not only prepared, but passionate about their literacy.

The Fullerton School District World Language programs provides students the opportunity to develop overall literacy in English and other languages, thus learning transferrable skills that build their communicative, cultural and intercultural proficiency.

The World Language program impacts students enrolled by providing them opportunities to develop multilingualism.
