School Readiness

School Readiness

School readiness is the foundation for a child’s future success. It is achieved when children, families, and schools work together with a shared commitment to learning. Children are ready to learn when they feel supported to engage, explore, share, and grow. Families play a vital role by encouraging learning at home and partnering with schools. In contrast, schools prepare welcoming environments and strong curricula that support children’s language, math, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. When educators and staff provide inclusive, equitable opportunities and recognize each child’s unique strengths and needs, all children are better prepared to thrive in school and beyond.

Educational Services – Early Education partners with parents, early childhood professionals, and the community to support young children and their families. We focus specifically on children from birth to age 5, providing a range of programs and services that help families and early care providers build the skills and knowledge needed to support healthy development and early learning during these critical early years.

Our work prepares children ages 0–5 to be confident, curious, and ready for school through parent education, professional learning for early childhood providers, and interactive programs that engage parents and children together. These efforts are strengthened through access to health support services. They are partially funded by the First 5 Orange County Commission of Children and Families, reflecting our shared commitment to strong families and positive outcomes for young children.

The first five years shape a lifetime.
