Adventures in Science Program

Since 2002, Fullerton School District has partnered with Raytheon and Marshall B. Ketchum University Southern California College of Optometry in hosting a one-day science field trip for sixth, seventh, and eight grade students, providing concrete experiences for them where they visit with engineers, scientists, and doctors, ask questions and get a “feel” for science-related careers.  Providing this opportunity generates interest in science for boys and girls, building their confidence in science achievement, which encourages them to pursue future science courses. Making students aware of the range of sciences and engineering careers available and their relevance to society works to attract them to STEM careers. This collaboration is considered a perfect example of how community partnerships can create a “learning laboratory” from which students can gain insight into various science-related careers.
