Health and Wellness

Healthy Children Learn Better!

The goal of school readiness is to ensure that all children are healthy and ready to learn when they enter kindergarten. Our health service team is made up of our school readiness nurses and preschool social service assistants. They aim to provide children and their families with health and community resources that will promote health and wellness for all. In addition, the school readiness nurses identify, manage, and prevent health problems and illnesses in young children enrolled in the program to ensure their educational success. The following describes the services our school readiness nurses provide:


1. Health and Developmental Screenings 
    • Health status screening 
    • Immunization screening 
    • Vision, hearing, & dental screening 
    • Developmental screening

    • Child Guidance Center

    • Primary care provider 
    • Regional Center of Orange County


3. Health education classes for children and for parents
4. Health training for staff
5. Preschool Staff support
    • Support teaching staff with students having difficulties in class such as behavioral issues, absenteeism, and/or other concerns
    • Collaborate with preschool team to identify parent resources/strategies to help family with child’s needs
    • Participate in Preschool Team Action Plan meeting to assist with health and/or academic needs

Community resources and local partnerships promote and support access and enrichment opportunities for children and their families in our school community.
