Board of Trustees to Appoint a Personnel Commissioner

The Personnel Commission is comprised of three individuals who reside within the boundaries of the Fullerton School District, and are registered voters and known adherents to the principles of a merit system.


Appointment to the Personnel Commission consists of a three-year term and is made on a rotating basis with one Personnel Commissioner’s term set to expire each year.  One member of the Personnel Commission is appointed by the Board of Trustees, one member is appointed by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the Classified employee organization (i.e., CSEA), and another member is jointly appointed by the other two Personnel Commissioners. The term starts on December 1 at noon. The term period for the Commissioner appointed by the Board of Trustess will be from December 1, 2018 to December 1, 2021.


The primary functions of the Personnel Commission are to: 1) oversee personnel management programs based on merit principles and ensures that the selection and promotion of employees are based on qualifications through examination processes; 2) administer and implement laws, regulations and rules governing employment matters to ensure the fair and equitable treatment of employees within the classified service; 3) conduct appeal hearings on matters involving employee disciplinary action, employment examinations, and personnel policies and procedures; and 4) develop and implement classified selection and employment, and job classification processes and procedures.


The Personnel Commission holds a regular public meeting once a month. Typically, the monthly public meeting takes place on the third Monday of every month, at 4:30pm, in the Classified Personnel Conference room.


The Board of Trustees is scheduled to publicly announce the name of the person it intends to appoint at their meeting on September 4, 2018 at 6pm.
