Superintendent’s Community Update | September 20, 2026

Superintendent's Update includes photos of Beechwood students and teachers.

Dear Fullerton School District Families:

Last week, I had the opportunity to step into the shoes of a student, spending part of the day alongside a Beechwood School scholar as she moved through classes and activities. Seeing the school day from a student’s perspective gave me another valuable opportunity to experience firsthand the learning, relationships and moments of connection that shape our students’ days.

That experience was especially fitting as we celebrated Arts in Education Week. Creativity can be found throughout FSD – in our classrooms, performances, visual arts and so much more. The arts give students opportunities to express themselves, discover new talents and engage with learning in meaningful ways, and I am proud that creativity remains an important part of the FSD experience.

On Friday, we also held our first District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) meeting of the school year at Nicolas Junior High School. DELAC brings multilingual families together to learn about programs, services and resources while strengthening their voice and partnership with our schools and District.

That partnership continues this week with parent conferences across FSD. Wednesday, September 23, will be dedicated to conferences, with no school for students. These conversations are an important opportunity to celebrate progress, discuss growth and work together to support each student’s success.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to make FSD a place where students can learn, create and thrive.

With gratitude,

Gretchen Janson, Ed.D., Superintendent
Fullerton School District
