Orangethorpe Elementary Celebrates Earth Day with Student-Led “Orcafest”

Orangethorpe Elementary Celebrates Earth Day with Student-Led “Orcafest”

Orangethorpe Elementary School celebrated Earth Day with its annual “Orcafest,” a dynamic, student-led event focused on conservation and environmental stewardship.

Held on April 22 in the school’s outdoor “Sherwood Forest” learning space, Orcafest brought together families of students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade to explore a variety of student-created projects and activities.

At each station, students served as conservation ambassadors, guiding visitors through art made from recycled materials, biome displays, conservation-themed books and lessons on bee protection. A farm-to-table station highlighted sustainability in action, with students offering homemade jam and cream to families in attendance.

Orangethorpe – whose mascot is the Orca – integrates conservation into its schoolwide focus, with Orcafest allowing students the opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world applications while engaging families in the educational process.

Events like Orcafest reflect Fullerton School District’s commitment to hands-on, real-world learning that promotes environmental responsibility and empowers students to make a positive impact in their communities.
