Fullerton’s Multilingual Families Celebrated at DELAC Year-End Event

Fullerton’s Multilingual Families Celebrated at DELAC Year-End Event

Tea cups, student performances, and a new campus center helped create a memorable celebration as Fullerton’s District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) wrapped up the 2025-26 school year on May 8 at the newly opened Arts and Recreation Center at Parks Junior High School.

Dozens of multilingual families and staff members from across the Fullerton School District gathered for the first community event held in the new center, enjoying a morning filled with engagement, resources and meaningful connections focused on student achievement.

“We are very excited to come together to support our English learners,” said DELAC President Mayra Zamora, a Fern Drive parent. “It’s important for us to learn more about the resources, to be a voice for our children, and to be part of the Fullerton School District community.”

DELAC meetings provide families with opportunities to explore District services, programs and community resources for English learners and multilingual students, while strengthening collaboration among families, schools and the District.

Throughout the year, families participated in discussions on topics including social-emotional wellness, the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), which measures English learners’ progress toward reclassification.

During the final meeting, families explored learning apps and technology tools, received information about mental health resources, and heard more about Community Schools initiatives. Attendees also discovered the academic and extracurricular offerings at Parks while enjoying performances by the school’s cheerleaders and Honor Band. Food and treats for the tea party-themed event were generously provided by the Parks PTA.

DELAC meeting for the 2026-27 school year will take place as follows:

  • September 18 – Nicolas Junior High School
  • November 13 – Orangethorpe Elementary School
  • February 19 – Ladera Vista Junior High School
  • April 23 – Rolling Hills Elementary School

Through DELAC and other family engagement opportunities, Fullerton School District continues to strengthen partnerships with families, ensuring students have access to the support, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
