Fullerton School District Technician Honored as 2026 Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year

Fullerton School District Technician Honored as 2026 Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year

Fullerton School District computer technician Jagath Jayaratne has been named the 2026 Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year in Technical Services, recognized for his nearly two decades of dedication to keeping classrooms connected and supporting staff and students across the District.

The honor, announced by the Orange County Department of Education last month, recognizes nine outstanding classified employees countywide representing distinct service categories – from transportation and skilled trades to health services and technology. The honorees will be recognized during Classified School Employee Week in May and advance for potential state and national recognition.

“It’s so exciting to me because I can see that they really appreciate me,” Jayaratne said. “I’m really grateful to everyone in the Fullerton School District. This feels like one of my achievements – my dream come true. I’ve been here almost 20 years, and what really satisfies me is helping people, helping staff and students and sharing my knowledge.”

As one of the District’s lead computer technicians, Jayaratne supports all 20 Fullerton School District schools and numerous departments, overseeing complex in-house iPad and laptop repairs while helping guide long-term technology planning. He completes an average of eight device repairs per day and provides technical support across multiple platforms – from macOS and Windows to Zoom and Google Workspace.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Jayaratne also mentors new technicians, sharing his expertise and helps the District maintain Apple Certification for in-house device repairs – highlighting the vital role classified employees play in keeping the District running smoothly so students and teachers can thrive.

“Jagath represents the very best of Fullerton School District,” said Jeremy Davis, Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Instructional Support. “His technical expertise, dedication to service and genuine care for others make a profound difference in the daily work of our schools. We are incredibly proud to see him recognized at the county level for the impact he makes across our entire District.”
