Fullerton School District Expands Breakfast in the Classroom to Third School

Breakfast is now part of the morning routine inside classrooms at Pacific Drive Elementary School, where Fullerton School District has expanded its Breakfast in the Classroom initiative to a third campus for the 2026-27 school year.

Launched at Pacific Drive on August 17, the program gives over 600 students on campus the opportunity to enjoy breakfast at no cost – removing barriers to a nutritious morning meal and helping students start the school day focused and ready to learn.

“Breakfast in the Classroom allows us to meet students where they are and make a nutritious morning meal an easy, natural part of their school day,” said Director of Nutrition Services, Victor Trejo, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. “By bringing breakfast directly to students, we’re creating a positive morning routine that allows them to settle in and focus on learning.”

The District first introduced Breakfast in the Classroom at Commonwealth Elementary during the 2023-24 school year, making it the first school in Orange County to implement the program. Richman Elementary followed in 2024-25.

The District has secured more than $52,000 in No Kid Hungry grant funding to support the program’s implementation across the three campuses.

Students are offered a complete breakfast that includes an entrée and fruit, with milk available, and can eat while teachers take attendance, review previous work or share morning announcements. Menu options include ChocoNana Oat Muffins, Pan Dulce and Bacon, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Pockets and more.

Breakfast in the Classroom is part of Nutrition Services’ broader effort to reimagine school meals through student and family taste tests, expanded scratch cooking and locally sourced ingredients. Other creative experiences include a Traveling BBQ, a custom grill trailer that brings the sights, sounds and smells of cooking to campus. New menu items this year include chili dogs and quesabirria.

During the 2025-26 school year, FSD Nutrition Services served approximately 1.9 million breakfasts, lunches, suppers and snacks, followed by more than 50,000 meals during the summer. Meals continue to be available at no cost to all FSD students this school year.
