Fisler Students Collect Record-Breaking Donation for Ronald McDonald House

Fisler Students Collect Record-Breaking Donation for Ronald McDonald House

Fisler School students turned small acts of kindness into a major community impact, collecting more than 400 pounds of soda pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County (RMHOC), the organization’s largest single pull tab donation in more than a decade.

The achievement was celebrated during a surprise schoolwide assembly on May 27, where students were recognized for their yearlong efforts to support families with critically ill children. McDonaldland characters Grimace and Hamburglar made special appearances to surprise the student body, while awards were presented to the classroom that collected the most pull tabs.

The initiative was inspired by a deeply personal experience. After Fisler fourth-grade teacher Emily Hancock’s daughter underwent treatment for a severe head injury at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, local McDonald’s Owner/Operator and Fisler parent Corwin Johnson introduced the family to RMHOC’s services supporting families during medical crises.

Inspired by the organization’s mission, Hancock launched the pull tab collection, which quickly grew into a K-8 campuswide competition with 100% classroom participation through the support of the school’s student council.

Service-learning experiences like this reflect Fullerton School District’s commitment to developing compassionate, community-minded students who understand the value of empathy, collaboration and making a positive impact both in and out of the classroom.
